Photo Artist in the Garden

Wish I could take credit for taking these beautiful photos, but it was the youngest member of our family, my 12-year-old daughter Chloé, who took my camera for an artful walk around the garden. Hope she lets me paint a few of these!

Some Photos and a Serenade

Yesterday, Meeko and I took a lovely walk in the woods along with my iPod Touch. These photos aren't too bad considering they were taken by the Touch and it's certainly convenient being able to carry it in my back pocket.  The light has been quite lovely the past couple of days creating lots of long blue shadows on the snow (what's left of it that is).

The past two weeks, I have been letting Meeko off his leash when we walk on the path.  He is very happy about the arrangement and has been very good about staying close to me and coming back when I call him. He knows that my pocket is full of treats when we go for our walks together.

I paid special attention to curled, dead leaves after seeing this wonderfully interesting blog post this past week.  A reminder that there is beauty in everything.

When we got to the end of the pathway, we were given the most wonderful serenade.  If you look very closely (I've put a little circle as it really isn't that easy to spot and the Touch is limited in what it captures), you will see the cardinal who was singing his little heart out to us.  And look at that gorgeous blue winter sky.

Time For A Walk

I've been noticing people on their blogs and Twitter mentioning 'fake winter' and spring weather. Gosh, we don't have that here. I'm not sure that we have the same depth of snow that we've had other years but we've had several layers of snow and ice the past couple of weeks.  I've had to shovel the front steps so many times. Today, it is absolutely beautiful. There are soft, fat snowflakes falling gently. The temperature is -4C (25F) which feels warm! It was the perfect day for a walk with my camera.

Boots with spikes? Check. P

Faithful companion? Check. Here we go.

Meeko was so very patient with all of my camera stops. 'Wait!' He knows what to do when he hears that.  He deserved a reward, so I let him off his leash to run on the last part of the path.  He makes me laugh when he runs and jumps through the snow. He looks like a jack rabbit. So much joy.

I want say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the beautiful, sensitive comments left here on the last post. Thank you as well to those who read the post but chose not to comment.  I appreciate you all. You restored my faith in the world. And I know that Jody feels the same way. So does my Christmas cactus. It decided to bloom today. How beautiful.

Walking in the Snowflakes

Mister Meeko and I went for a walk in the snowflakes.  It's quite mild today, so the walk was a little bit wet but quite enjoyable.  Very pretty too.

It didn't start out entirely smoothly. I got to the park and realized that my camera didn't have a memory card in it so we went back to the house.  I'm so absentminded lately. Meeko was a little surprised to be returning home so quickly.

Mr. Snowflake.  Did anyone notice the little hair trim in time for Christmas?
Once I had my memory card, I took quite a few photos.  Unfortunately, I couldn't use about half of them as they were out of focus.  Yes, I forgot to bring my glasses again. It's also complicated taking photos with a dog on a leash. Meeko is very good about stopping.  He's getting used to that.  But while I am taking my time composing my photo, he's thinking, 'While she's doing this, why don't I just go waaaay over here and sniff that.'

I did manage to get quite a few pretty photos.  In a few photos, you can see white lines.  They are the snowflakes falling.

The one below is without a doubt my favourite. I guess those are snowflake drops? It wasn't raining.

And finally, we got back from our snowy, wet walk.  Both Meeko and I have naturally curly hair that gets curlier when it is rainy or snowy. (I guess owners do resemble their dogs!) Here's my curly boy at the end of our walk.  You're just going to have to imagine what I looked like. :)

The photo is a little hazy as by this time my lens was a bit wet!
Have a good weekend in the sun or the snow, the warm or the cold, depending on where you live!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

The wall of snow arrived this morning.  My little viola seems to be bowing down to the inevitability of it all.  I don't mind.  I found myself singing 'Let it snow' the other day when I was walking Meeko.

Someone was quite happy about this morning's condition. It's not his first winter but he looked a little surprised when we opened the back door.

Then he did what we refer to as the 'weasel run'.  This is a wild, high speed run that he does back and forth from one side of the yard to the other, running precariously close to hard, jutting objects and incorporating as many fancy airborne moves as are possible.  I caught part of it with my camera.  Thanks to Meeko, I was able to test out the action function of my new camera. :)

It's not just the furry kids who are happy today.  The snow is that lovely packable kind.  School kids will be having a ball today. My two are in high school.  They said 'Oh no' when they looked out the window, but they were in a cheerful mood this morning. I guess we are all still young kids at heart.

Have a good day.  Safe travels if you are in the States moving towards a family celebration.  I'll announce a sale in my Etsy store later today.

The sale has begun and lasts until the end of the day Monday November 28th in my Etsy store.  Use the coupon code THANKS2011 when you check out and receive 15% off your entire order.
