Time For A Walk

I've been noticing people on their blogs and Twitter mentioning 'fake winter' and spring weather. Gosh, we don't have that here. I'm not sure that we have the same depth of snow that we've had other years but we've had several layers of snow and ice the past couple of weeks.  I've had to shovel the front steps so many times. Today, it is absolutely beautiful. There are soft, fat snowflakes falling gently. The temperature is -4C (25F) which feels warm! It was the perfect day for a walk with my camera.

Boots with spikes? Check. P

Faithful companion? Check. Here we go.

Meeko was so very patient with all of my camera stops. 'Wait!' He knows what to do when he hears that.  He deserved a reward, so I let him off his leash to run on the last part of the path.  He makes me laugh when he runs and jumps through the snow. He looks like a jack rabbit. So much joy.

I want say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the beautiful, sensitive comments left here on the last post. Thank you as well to those who read the post but chose not to comment.  I appreciate you all. You restored my faith in the world. And I know that Jody feels the same way. So does my Christmas cactus. It decided to bloom today. How beautiful.

  2. Great pictures, Kathleen! We have had that "spring" weather here! My poor boys have only had two "big" snowfalls this year that have melted within a day. Not enough to even make a snowman. :(

Is that winter wonderland in your backyard or do you have to drive to get to a trail?

Also, have you had that Christmas cactus long?

More questions than comments today! LOL

    1. Hi Jody--I can send you a little ice and snow if you and your sons are interested. :) I am so lucky--that beautiful forest path is at the end of our street. I knew the trees were there but had no idea about the path until I owned Meeko. I noticed footprints in the snow and followed them! It's only usable in the winter because it's very swampy the rest of the year. It's surrounded by a subdivision but you can't really see that when you are on it. A bit of a winter paradise. xx

    2. Forgot! I've had that Christmas cactus for about four years. I forgot to bring it towards the window in November so it has bloomed later this year, but I quite like that. I had a Christmas cactus before that bloomed at Christmas and Easter! :)

  3. Ohhh! You're so lucky to have that just down the street! Lovely!

I asked about the cactus because my Husband's family own greenhouses. They supply many of the Costco's with large poinsettias and they also ship loads of Christmas cactus. I'm one of those "customers" the greenhouse businesses like, because I can't seem to keep potted plants alive in the house. I either kill them with kindness (over watering) or neglect them and they dry up. *sigh*

Mike gave my aunt one of their Christmas cacti when we were dating (forever ago) and she still has it and says it blooms twice a year (sometimes not quite at Christmas). I just wondered if you had to keep it in the dark or something. LOL. Mine has never lasted long enough to make it to the next Christmas.

    1. I'm much better with outdoor plants than indoor ones. For my cactus, I have it in a room that gets northern light. I move it away from the window when it is dormant and beside the window in the fall when I think that it should be starting to bud. I water it more often when it is in bloom and just every now and then when it's not. I'm not very fussy with it at all--maybe just lucky. :)

If it stays around till tomorrow, i'm hoping to get some nice photos too.My dog stands out in the snow :) and he still gets giddy with it. He was crunching ice on Friday, he's funny with that too! that hole in the tree looks interesting, worth watching in the spring?? Saw a treecreeper Fri, round and round the tree it went, sweet!

    1. I think Meeko does a fair bit of chomping too! He barrels in from the back yard with his muzzle and beard covered in snow. It's quite funny. You seem to have a lot of lovely birds around you. On our walks, we see mostly chickadees and woodpeckers but we have seen nuthatches. I think they are the same thing as a treecreeper. I love that trunk with the hole in it--it's one of my favourites markers on our walk.

    1. Be brave Lucile! Go and make angels in the snow! Now wouldn't that be a sight in the middle of Paris. :)

Thank you for telling me about the commenting problem. I've posted on the Blogger Help forum about it.

It is so beautiful here this morning. All of the trees are covered in frost and are sparkling. I ran out to take photos and my camera battery was dead!

  8. I've just gone and put my sheepskin boots on after looking at your photos. Brrrrrrrr! I saw the horse races & soccer in the snow in the northern hemisphere, and the Black Sea frozen is an amazing site. I dread to think about your heating bill...about as scary as my summer Air Con bill....

Your photos are a delight, and your zygo bloom is stunning.

After reading your previous post, all I cn say is that it's the Internet. Faceless anonomity = no repercussions & no morals to a lot of people. Unfortunately stuff will always get ripped off, I've seen my paintings appear on other's sites, slightly modified as well. This happens in the "Real World" too. When I was manufacturing giftware, my own supplier took my designs to China to have them copied. Nothing you can do but just get on with it, and make your product superior to the rough knock-offs.

    Stay warm!

    1. Silly girl...I bet your feet are too hot now!

You have a good attitude. In the end, that is what you need to do: keep painting. I had problems with companies in the past. One copied my work with a slight change. They dealt with me on other projects so it was so stupid to think I wouldn't notice. The other had a licence to use my work on one product and then used it for another. My sister-in-law called to congratulate me and I had no idea what she was talking. Shame on your supplier. Lack of morals, greed, laziness, disorganization, stupidity...there are many words for it.

I am still thinking about your beautiful calligraphy you posted the other day. So lovely. Stay cool, Cindy!
