Out with the Old, In with the New

I decided to start the new year with a major clean-up of my studio. Major. I promised myself not just to tidy up my painting table but also to deal with the piles of papers everywhere, the boxes of frames, the collections, the whatever (as I've lost track of what everything is).

I have been working on it the past week and I have made progress. I cleared everything off my bookshelf and rearranged things. I've gone through my nature collections and picked out my favourite things for display.

I attached some of my heart rocks to a frame. I hot-glued them right on to the glass. I love how it looks and we'll see if the rocks manage to stay attached.

I've sorted through my stacks of paintings. I finally framed the portrait I did of Meeko months ago. I've framed other things too--my own work and work I've purchased from other artists.

I've moved things from my painting table so that I can have more space. Last night, I was feeling pretty discouraged. I'm tired. Tired of cleaning and just plain old tired. There is a still a lot to go through and I was feeling like giving up. I'd rather be painting but I will stick with this. I figure a few more days and my studio will be in better shape than it has been in years and I'll benefit from it in the months ahead.

Here's hoping that your new year has started in a positive way.

    1. I usually procrastinate forever (and just push things to the side) but this time I'm forcing myself. It had to be done! :)

  3. I have to do a MAJOR tidy soon, or I will not be able to get in my workroom :) But I have 11 illustrations left to do for 'The Lord's My Shepherd' by the end of the month, so hopefully by the end of the month I will be able to clean up. I have my new camera now, and may take a photo of the tip that is my room, not sure anyone will see it though. You have done a brilliant job, necessary at times to declutter the brain too. On another note, I think I saw a Meeko puppy the other day, and I've heard that someone had a litter of them in my home town......oooh I've never seen one for real, but I'm pretty sure it was one, if I see the man again, I shall have to ask :))) So cute :) I may get a photo too. Good luck with the fresh start.

    1. My studio was getting to the point that I was tripping over things and losing things constantly. You are so busy, Julie. That's wonderful. Your clean-up can wait until you are finished.

Ooooo...a Meeko puppy! :) Wheatens are so cute when they are puppies (not that the grownup ones aren't cute--Meeko made me add that).

  4. Yes, cleaning & clearly & decluttering & discovering "old" treasures will be so worth the efforts. I can attest that moving was the best thing that could happen to me, I was forced to do some serious purging, decluttering, and then an efficient & smart reorganization, and now it is just perfect. (in my opinion, of course !)
Meeko looks as good as ever on your realistic painting ! I heart the stone set up (brilliant !), and I was so happy to see the floral bucket ! Thanks a lot, sweet Kathleen !
Take care of yourself, and treat yourself once you'll be done with the cleaning & reorganizing !

    1. Thank you for the words of encouragement, Sonia, and your good example. :) I will have to think of a nice reward when I am all done although getting back to painting will be a reward in itself. xoxo
