Blue Sky and Blue Lines

There is a stunning blue sky today. It's so nice to have so much light. Much of January was grey and sombre and my mood by month's end matched it! Having light makes a world of difference to me. I can stand the cold and the snow if you give me a little sunshine.

Today's light created the most beautiful shadows in the forest where Meeko and I walk. It took my breath away. It was like being part of a beautiful tapestry made of tree trunks and blue shadows.

Meeko and I aren't the only ones who enjoy walking through the forest. We noticed lots of animal tracks today in the fresh snow.

Generally, I let Meeko go off-leash in the forest. But he lost those privileges last week. He caught the scent of a dog and took off down the pathway--completely out of my sight and in the direction of where the forest pathway exits onto a road. I ran after him. Me run? Me run in the snow? Yes I did! Thankfully, the dog and owner he had gone to greet stayed in one place and waited for me. The owner said she knew it was odd for him to be all on his own.

But really how long can you stay mad at a face like this?

Happy February to you all. I wish you blue skies wherever you may be.

  1. Sweet Meeko! Yesterday was sunny and wonderful here as well, like you we´ve had mostly grey skies lately so I appreciated it SO much!

  2. I am so not a ghoul and am early to bed early to rise, but I must confess the gray days do not bother me in the least. I find the sunshine actually bothers my eyes, though I can see the beauty in a clear blue sky day too. I couldn't stay mad at Meeko. He is gorgeous!

    1. I think you are lucky not to be affected by lack of light. Yesterday and today were both sunny and I have more energy. I've been more productive and feel better.

I will pass on your compliments to Meeko. :)

  3. I don't like the low light days, the ones that never seem to wake up, we've had a little sun recently and it's been wonderful to see. It's a shock when the dog runs off, we lost ours in some woods and frantically searched for 20mins, then we dashed back to where our car was(on a very busy road) and he was there, being held by some people for us, such a panicky feeling! Meeko looks like he's talking to you, he's lovely :)

    1. I was so happy the see the sun again today. Two days in a row! Woohoo! Glad you are getting some too.

It's such a terrible feeling when they run off. I don't think I would be able to bear losing Meeko. Once he went after some deer when we were visiting my parents who live in a forested area. I know he was hearing me call him because he would stop every now and look in my direction but then would keep going further into the woods. The call of the wild. When I finally had him back on the leash that time, I was so relieved and mad at him all at the same time. Glad you found yours. Thank goodness for helpful people.

  5. oh Meeko Meeko ... naughty boy ! ;-) but can you really blame him for enjoying freedom ? I bet you don't.
Nature in winter is bare & minimalist, and these lines are pretty awesome on the bright white snow ! Thanks for sharing !

    1. I kept him on the leash for a few days but have started taking it off again. I fill my pockets with treats and reward him every time he waits for me and comes back beside me. I've also been trying to choose walk times when there are less likely to be others on the forest path.

There is beauty in every season. Thank goodness! xx
